At a Glance
The idea of Sussex as an affordable fee levying private school network to teach the government syllabus in English Medium. A holistic approach to education with expert tutelage, creative freedom and inspiring innovation is the key to molding our students from core to advanced knowledge preserving the cultural and traditional values. We encourage an interactive student teacher classroom environment to fuel the student's curiosity and enhance self-discovery. We also firmly believe in inculcating intellectual awareness, cultural diversity and a sense of responsibility towards the community, in our student's mind. It is of utmost importance for us as mentors, to empower and expose every young mind with the ocean of possibilities and the diligence needed to achieve them. The school is focused to instill in them that every challenge is worth it and one must work with compassion to overcome apprehension and fear to achieve their goals. The school wishes every child discovers their true potential and builds a better tomorrow for our community.
About Sussex Network
This idea got off the ground when founder Mr. K.A.S. Jayatissa, the Chairman of the Sussex Educational Services Ltd set up the first college which was declared open on the 22th January 2004 at Jambugasmulla, Nugegoda where his own son and daughter were among its first batch of 80 students.
Winning the hearts of the people soon it grew into a large network of 20 colleges spread throughout 8 provinces in the island by 2009. Presently, the college network has 6,000 students, and around 700 teachers. Children at Sussex learn in English Medium in an environment conducive for character building based on Sri Lankan cultural and religious values. It is a joy to witness our colleges celebrate Sinhala–and Hindu New Year and Wesak as much in the same spirit as Christmas, Thaipongal, and Ramadan.
Such values are further cemented by having the respective mother tongue and religion made compulsory for all children with a choice of a link language that ensures communal harmony. They have a choice of subjects such as French and English Literature too in addition to aesthetic and sports as other compulsory co-curriculum pursuits. We are in the forefront of teaching mathematics, science and commerce and also have arrangements in place to coach our students who desire to take up London O/L and A/L examinations as well.
Every college in the network is well equipped with science and computer labs and also exposes our children to learning with computers from Grade 1 upwards so that they become familiar with the innumerable opportunities of access to new knowledge and skills to be leaders capable of facing the challenges of the 21 century global village. Sussex has been awarded ISO certification and has also won National Productivity Awards thrice over in recognition as a leader in quality education in Sri Lanka and recently Sussex Network won Business Excellence Award too.

The Sussex College Network as an International School plays a central role in nurturing and developing the unique talent of every child as well as in shaping their character. In a fast-changing world, driven by technological innovations, the way children learn today and the way they will work tomorrow are redefining the contours of teaching and learning everywhere.
At Sussex College International School, we are always guided by our foundational philosophy of providing children happy learning experiences, while continuously incorporating the distinct features of a school of the future to foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication. Children's holistic development and well-being are always at the heart of everything we do at our school network. Our constant endeavour is to identify children's interests early on and develop them into their passion. Our educational approach gives opportunities to children to explore new frontiers of digital learning and prepare them to be lifelong learners.
Our teachers are our pillars of strength. They teach our children not just with their minds but with their hearts, making learning enjoyable and rewarding, and instilling in them sound values. They inspire our children to believe in themselves and think big. Our educational programmes are complemented by state-of the art facilities and excellent resources, and we offer numerous opportunities to children to engage and excel in sports and co-curricular activities.
I invite you to explore Sussex as we rededicate ourselves every day, to provide an excellent education for our children.
Caring for children’s education and serving the mankind as a Nation Builder and create true Sri Lankan leaders with a global outlook.
Develop and implement education to impart knowledge, skills and attitudes to think creatively and critically and to be a role model in the education system and also deepen children’s commitment to live in social harmony and lead human and productive lives in a democratic society.
Rooted In Knowledge
Rooted in Knowledge is etched in all that we do at Greenwood High. Reflecting the core values of our rich heritage, we aspire to build strong foundations for our students based on the most powerful value of all knowledge.
A Fresh Approach
Our vision is to continually use the very latest methods of education. We’re founded on the principle of keeping traditions while having a pragmatic and continuous approach of examining every practice, weigh it against prevailing options and then use the most effective.
The contrast between our motto and vision conveys that the school believes in blending both the old and new, by tapping into the unlimited potential of tomorrow’s technology while still instilling yesterday’s values in our students, which we believe to be the best guiding principle.
Such values are further cemented by having the respective mother tongue and religion made compulsory for all children with a choice of a link language that ensures communal harmony. They have a choice of subjects such as French and English Literature too in addition to aesthetic and sports as other compulsory co-curriculum pursuits. We are in the forefront of teaching mathematics, science and commerce and also have arrangements in place to coach our students who desire to take up London OL and AL examinations as well.
Board of Directors
Each child becomes a member of one of four different Houses when they join the school. Each House is named after a British University; Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, Harvard. These Houses form the basis of many activities and competitions across the school.
